Let’s Turn Our Town Auditorium Into a Lively Entertainment Hub
Hello!
Every time I step into the Deep River Town Auditorium to attend a committee meeting or a Town Meeting for a vote, I am struck with the elegance and simple beauty of the earlier era in which it was built. I am proud that our town has such a gem and I am filled with particular pride that my Aunt, Emy Marvin, spearheaded the renovation of our Town Hall over thirty five years ago.
I don’t understand why the Auditorium isn’t used more. Is it a lack of planning? Creativity? Interest? Focus? So many of us drive to The Kate in Old Saybrook for entertainment and culture, while our own auditorium is closed and empty week after week.
The last posted meeting on the town website for the Town Auditorium Management Committee is from December, 2019 - - four years ago! Have we done any user satisfaction research on groups who have rented the auditorium in the past few years, or attended events there to see where we might improve our processes? Could we extend the new online application system Planning and Zoning has secured a grant to implement to include Town Auditorium Use Application? Could we learn anything about engagement and promotion by speaking with the folks who manage the Chester Meeting House or The Kate? Have we done a cost/benefit analysis to determine what our break even cost is? Have we set revenue goals?
As First Selectwoman, I plan to work with our creative and entrepreneurial neighbors and staff to develop a schedule of musical and cultural events to bring energy, fun, and a sense of community to our Town Hall Auditorium and Village Center.
Thank you for your continued interest and support of my campaign.
Warm regards,
Katie
